Thanks to Charlie O’Shields efforts, the encouraging and talented creator of Doodlewash, July will be forever celebrated as World Watercolor Month. Last year was World Watercolor Month's inaugural celebration, and I participated throughout all 31 days of July, completing nearly a painting a day and filling up an entire sketchbook.
But WWM is more than just a month filled with watercolor. It's also about sharing the gift of art with others. Once again, WWM is partnering with The Dreaming Zebra Foundation to raise funding and supplies for children who lack the means to explore their creative talents. What a great way to love and build up others through art!
So okay, WWM is also very much about watercolor, and this year Charlie has partnered with some amazing companies (like my beloved Cheap Joe's) to offer special savings, fabulous giveaways, and much, much more. Yep, I'm in!
World Watercolor Month Challenge!
Once again, I invite you to join me by participating throughout the month of July. Charlie has plenty of ideas on how to be involved, but remember, the point of this challenge is to have fun. I'm planning to do 31 paintings in 31 days again, and I welcome encouragement! You can find SJ on Facebook and Instagram, or subscribe to blog updates via email.
If you love to watercolor but just can't do 31 paintings in 31 days, no problem! Make your own personal goal for the month and then join in the celebration on social media. Just tag your posts with #WorldWatercolorMonth so the WWM community can applaud your efforts.
If you want to support this endeavor but don't paint, July is a great month to give it a go. (I have plenty of tips on getting started with art journaling and/or watercolor.) You can also be involved by making a tax-deductible gift to The Dreaming Zebra Foundation.
You can learn more about World Watercolor Month at the official website. There is also a convenient Facebook group, a new community forum, and more. Sharing the love of art and creativity with this world just got a little bit easier.
